WE DID IT!!!!!!

As you know we recently got the news that SXSW has been canceled.

First, I want to thank you all for the support. I’m so proud of our community for standing up for the safety of our citizens, and for voicing our concerns.

I understand that many are concerned about how the cancellation of SXSW will affect Austin and its citizens and businesses economically.

Those who disagree with the cancellation often argue that the cancellation of SXSW will have a large economic impact, and that canceling isn't going to stop the spread of the virus. While it might not prevent an outbreak completely, it will certainly lessen the numbers. I also believe if SXSW were to go on as planned, and an outbreak of COVID-19 were to happen, we would be in economic devastation due to lockdowns and quarantines.

However, I do sympathize with those who have lost money, and gigs due to this. I think now is a wonderful time to discuss how important it is for locals to support locals. Let’s support each other, Austin. It can be as simple as tipping a little extra towards your local bartender or server, supporting your neighborhood small business boutique or restaurant, or simply purchasing the merchandise of your favorite SXSW band or Local Artist.

Here are multiple links I would like to draw attention to, that focus on this matter, and how you can help.

Stay safe and be aware that the virus can be asymptomatic. Keep the incubation period in mind (which can range from a few days to weeks). Be hygienically responsible, not only to care for yourself but your community at large.  Let’s keep Austin healthy, supportive, and as always – weird!
