What can I say? I'm just a fool who thought he could find happiness in things other than God. For me that was women, alcohol and money, to name a few. And all of this, as a married man and father of 5. In the end, God showed me that only he brings true happiness and mercifully stripped me of all these vices. He allowed me to be sent to prison for a crime I did not commit with a 60-year sentence. After 4 years of imprisonment, and no exoneration in sight, I have come to know the Lord and to love him like never before. Being raised in a Christian home, I got stuck in religion. But God...he showed me it was always meant to be more than that: a relationship. So everyday that I wakeup in prison, I give my whole life to King Jesus and let him take the wheel. I have come to find rest in him. An equally big twist in my story, as my wrongful conviction, is the fact that God selected me to start a church behind bars. We called it "The Least", based on Matthew 25. Since its inception 2 years ago, we've grown from the previous attendance rate of 6-8/week, to now almost 150 on any given Sunday. We have 320 men on this yard (PVSP A-Yard) who attend our church and over 500 who have come through the doors. We believe that we are the largest prison church in California, or maybe in America. All of this, dispite the injustice, because the Lord wanted to show me and these prisoners how much he loves us. And he does... Beyond these stats, many MANY men have come to believe in Jesus and now call him " Lord". They walk with him daily and shake off the shackles that bind them. Like these men, I have come to know a freedom like never before. I am free indeed, and it's all because of Jesus. He pursued me, and he pursued these men, even when we ran from him. He offered us a total pardon from our sin and gave us himself, in full measure. It might be tempting to think, poor Jeff or poor prisoners. But we are the favored ones, blessed and victorious in Jesus forever.
