School Board Vote 5-2 today to proceed with Court One bid, sale not final until Public Forum

S ComplexDubuque, IA, United States
Aug 31, 2022

At the special school board meeting today 8/31/2022, the Dubuque School Board voted 5-2 to proceed with the sale of the Dubuque Soccer Complex to Court One, still not considering DSA's bid.

Board Members Jim Prochaska and Katie Jones dissented, saying that they were in favor of selling to the Dubuque Soccer Alliance (DSA). Jim P. spoke at length about DSA's history and investment in the property, Katie J. affirmed that and DSA's proven 30-year track record of managing the property for Dubuque and the DCSD. The less than 1% of school budget in the bid differences was brought up ("2 school busses").

The Soccer Complex property sale will not final until the School Board schedules and holds a Public Forum (estimated Sept 22-30, date to be announced) after which School Board Members will vote to sell the Soccer Complex property. After that, Court One has a 90-day contingency period built into their contract to pursue Zoning and other legal needs. A Zoning change to Commercial will be needed for Court One to proceed with their plans to build an indoor multi-sports center to include basketball, volleyball and TBD size turf or indoor soccer field in their plan, if so. Their plan includes soccer fields and other modifications to the exterior space.
