Cruel hare coursers are availing of a major online fundraising platform to raise money to finance their extremely cruel practice.

Go Fund Me is widely promoted as “the most trusted online fundraising platform” and many worthy causes have used it to bolster support for their activities. But now one of the world’s most barbaric blood sports has managed to have its “cause” included among those being promoted on the platform.

Hare coursing clubs in Ireland have already raised large amounts of money as a result. What they have NOT told GoFundMe is what hare coursing involves and that it clearly breaches the platform’s policy which states (under “terms and conditions”) that gambling-related  activities such as horse racing and greyhound racing are excluded from the list of permissible fund raisers.

Apart from being a gambling activity, hare coursing is extremely cruel, involving as it does the capture of hares that are set upon by pairs of dogs for human amusement and the feeding of LIVE animals to the dogs in training sessions. Thousands of hares are snatched every year from the Irish countryside for coursing.

That GoFundMe is allowing this vile form of animal cruel to avail of its services is beyond belief.

Let’s ask them to DROP hare coursing immediately from its platform.

Hare coursing involves HEAVY GAMBLING and is also an extremely cruel practice. Thousands of hares are captured every year in the Irish countryside to be set upon by pairs of greyhounds. Many are mauled or have their bones crushed in the “sport” that ensues. Injured hares, as well as cats and rabbits are fed LIVE to dogs in training sessions that precede coursing events.

We urge you to immediately remove the hare coursing fund-raiser from your platform, for the sake of the animals that will suffer but also for the sake of your international image as “the most trusted online fundraising platform.”
