Big debate on animal cruelty in Ireland’s parliament! Tuesday, October 3rd. Essential for opponents of animal cruelty practices such as hare coursing, vivisection, the greyhound “industry”, factory farming, inadequate cat protection laws etc to be there. Last year, hare coursing fans filled the public gallery in the Dail as a tactic to put pressure on the politicians. This time, our side must be there in strength. Otherwise, politicians will assume we don’t care enough about the issues. The debate on animal welfare will take place in Dail Eireann this Tuesday, 3rd October, from 8pm to 10pm. The Private Members Motion by Independents 4 Change TDs Maureen O’Sullivan, Clare Daly, Tommy Broughan, Joan Collins, Catherine Connolly, Thomas Pringle and Mick Wallace will highlight the "increasing number of incidents and reports of animal mistreatment, cruelty and abuse" arising from "neglect, poor regulations, lack of enforcement of current legislation, inadequate legislation and lack of sanctions for those responsible for these acts of cruelty". Anti animal cruelty TDs will avail of the debate to tell the government that "cruelty to animals is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated." To attend in the public gallery just contact either your own local TD or one of the TDs involved in the debate. Passes can then be picked up when you arrive at the Dail. Here are contact details: Maureen O’ Sullivan TD can be contacted at Tel: (01) 618 3488 or email: maureen.osullivan@oireachtas.ie Or Clare Daly TD at clare.daly@oireachtas.ie The names and contact details for all TDs can be accessed at http://beta.oireachtas.ie/en/members/tds/
