Awareness of the indefensible cruelty of blood sports has been around for a long time. Here's a character in Shakespeare's play As You Like it, describing a stag in the aftermath of a hunt: “…The wretched animal heaved forth such groans That their discharge did stretch his leathern coat Almost to bursting, and the big round tears Coursed one another down his innocent nose In piteous chase….” (Act Two 2 Scene One lines 33-40) www.banbloodsports.com
