Friends of the Warburg
Mar 6, 2015
Dear All,
This just in: Professor David Freedberg as the new Director of the Warburg Institute, effective from July 2015. You can read more about Professor Freedberg and his research here: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/arthistory/faculty/Freedberg.html
In addition, the Warburg has written the following letter to thank you for your ongoing support, with contact information if you would like to get keep up to date with (and hopefully get involved in!) goings on at the institute:
Dear Friend of the Warburg Institute,
We are writing to you again following the recent publication of the statement below by the Warburg Institute and the University of London.
'Following the court's ruling on the interpretation of the 1944 Trust Deed, the University of London and the Advisory Council of the Warburg Institute are pleased to announce that they have, through mediation, reached a binding agreement on the future management of the Warburg Institute. We are very pleased that this outcome means that we can now draw a line under past disagreement and look to the future.'
The support which the Institute received throughout the case has been overwhelming, particularly over the last few months. We were aware of the high regard in which the Institute was held amongst the international scholarly community but the extent and range of that regard was not appreciated fully. Many of those who signed the petition were well known to us but a great many more extend beyond our direct contacts of former students, fellows, visitors and Library readers. We would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support and willingness to demonstrate that support so visibly.
We hope that you will all continue to take an interest in the Institute and its work and development over the coming months and years. If you would like to be included on our mailing lists for events at the Institute please contact Jane Ferguson at jane.ferguson@sas.ac.uk . We would also like to send you general information about the Institute and its activities from time to time. If you are happy to receive such information please send your contact details to the Institute Manager, Catherine Charlton at catherine.charlton@sas.ac.uk.
Sincerely,
Professor Margaret M. McGowan
