Dear Signatories,
Today, with over 1,000 signatures on our petition, we have taken the next step by sending an email to Transport for London (TfL), Go-Ahead London, the Mayor of London, and our MP, Fleur Anderson.
Below, you will find the email we sent. Thank you for your continued support in helping us push for better public transport services in our community.
Together, we are making a difference!
Dear Transport for London (TfL), Go Ahead London, and the Office of the Mayor of London,
We, the undersigned residents of Wimbledon, Wandsworth, and Richmond, are writing to urgently request your attention and cooperation in addressing the ongoing challenges faced by passengers on bus routes 93, 14, 430 and 493. Our petition, which has now received over 1,000 signatures from local residents, highlights significant concerns about the state of these crucial bus services and the impact they are having on our community. Please find attached the full list of signatories for your reference.
This petition is not merely a list of complaints, but a call for action, collaboration, and improvement. We believe that with your leadership, we can work together to ensure that these services become reliable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of all passengers, particularly those who depend on them for essential travel.
The key issues affecting these routes include:
Inconsistent and infrequent bus intervals: Buses often arrive late or are spaced too far apart, especially during peak hours, leading to long wait times and uncertainty for passengers.
Overcrowded buses: At peak times, many buses are overcrowded, resulting in discomfort and concerns about passenger safety.
Frequent, unexplained route changes: Bus routes are regularly altered without adequate notice, disrupting passengers’ daily routines and causing confusion about service availability.
These issues are felt most acutely by vulnerable members of our community, including elderly residents, people with disabilities, and those with limited mobility, who rely on these services for essential trips such as medical appointments, work, and daily errands. Many of these individuals are unable to sign online petitions, yet they are among the most affected by unreliable bus services.
The growing frustration in our community was recently highlighted in an article by South West Londoner on November 9, 2024, which reported on the increasing dissatisfaction of residents in Wimbledon, Putney, and surrounding areas. The article describes the current situation as “in shambles” and calls for “drastic reform” of the bus services. This sentiment reflects the urgency with which local residents are calling for change. You can read the article here: Putney and Wimbledon residents call for drastic reform to bus services in shambles.
We understand that improving public transport services is a complex task that requires careful planning and resource allocation. However, we firmly believe that with your support, we can make meaningful improvements that will address the immediate concerns of residents while also aligning with TfL’s and the Mayor’s goals of providing accessible, efficient, and sustainable public transport in London.
We respectfully ask that you take immediate action by considering the following:
Increase bus frequency: Shortening wait times and improving the regularity of services, particularly during peak hours, will greatly benefit all passengers.
Ensure consistent routes and destinations: Ensuring that buses follow their scheduled routes and communicate any necessary changes well in advance will provide stability and reliability for riders.
Improve communication: Proactively informing passengers about route changes, delays, or other disruptions will help them plan their journeys effectively and reduce uncertainty.
These changes will not only improve the daily lives of residents but also contribute to building a more reliable and sustainable public transport system that benefits all Londoners. We are confident that by working together, TfL, Go Ahead London, and the Mayor’s Office can make these improvements a reality.
Please note that the response of this email will be shared with all 1,023 signatories, as we have collected email addresses from each individual who has signed. This will ensure that the broader community is informed about the actions being taken and the plans for improving these bus routes. We trust that you will engage with us transparently and with the urgency this issue demands.
We look forward to your prompt and positive response, and we are eager to collaborate with you to bring about meaningful changes to bus services on routes 93, 14, and 493.
