Members of Ahavath Torah:
Congratulations and thanks to all of you who came out and voted to renew Rabbi Poupko's contract. I have learned, although it is not verified, that 87% of the voting membership approved of the renewal.
I prefaced that statement with the words "not verified" because the Executive Committee refuses to disclose the actual results and specific vote tally to the membership. Emails to the President and Chairman of the Board requesting those results have gone unanswered and the response from the synagogue office is that the results are not "public information" and the "Board would like to keep that between themselves".
It is unacceptable that in a democratically run institution operating under constitutional provisions authorizing public elections, that the Executive Committee refuses to disclose the actual election results and chooses to keep those results secret. Please either email or call the synagogue leaders and/or the office to demand the release of the election vote results.
Thank you for your support and continued efforts to achieve full transparency.
