🚌 PETITION: MORE REGULAR BUS SERVICES BETWEEN CASTLEISLAND & TRALEE
The Issue
This petition is calling for improved bus services both to and from Castleisland and Tralee.
For many people in Castleisland and the surrounding areas, the bus is not a convenience — it is their only realistic form of transport. People depend on these services to get to work, college, medical appointments, shopping and other essential commitments.
At present, the direct services do not provide sufficient coverage throughout the morning, midday, afternoon, evening and night. The limited timetable can leave people waiting hours for the next bus, particularly when travelling back from Tralee.
Castleisland → Tralee: current services include approximately 8:11am, 11:25am, 3:32pm and 6:50pm.
Tralee → Castleisland: current services include approximately 8:40am, 10:45am, 12:45pm and 6:00pm.
This leaves significant gaps throughout the day and, particularly, very limited options later in the evening/night.
It is also concerning that people can be seen thumbing along dangerous roads because there are not enough buses available. Nobody should have to rely on strangers picking them up or put themselves at risk simply because public transport is unavailable.
We are calling for more frequent and better-spread services between Castleisland and Tralee, including:
• Reliable morning services for workers and students
• More midday services
• More afternoon services
• Additional evening services
• Later night services so people working late can get home safely
• Better services in both directions, rather than focusing only on Castleisland → Tralee
• Timetables that reflect the actual needs of people who depend entirely on public transport
Castleisland should not be left isolated simply because someone does not have access to a car. Reliable public transport is essential for people to work, study, access healthcare, socialise and participate fully in their community.
