Dear Akoras and friends of Achimota School: We hope all is well with you and your families. The Petition group organized the delivery of the Petition on the Achimota School land encroachment issue to the President John Mahama, and other petitioned parties in November 2015. With the election of a new OAA (Old Achimotan Association) President, Akora Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, the Petition team has deferred leadership on resolution of the land encroachment issue to the OAA. We are pleased to report that representatives from the OAA and Achimota School met with Parliament's Committee on Lands and Forestry to discuss Achimota School land encroachment and related matters. In attendance were the Attorney-General, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and the Executive Secretary for the Lands Commission. The Meeting agreed to tackle immediately the issue of providing security for the School to ensure the safety of staff and students, and also stop further encroachment. The Attorney General agreed to provide whatever assistance is required to tackle outstanding legal issues. In the next few weeks the Parliamentary Committee will visit the School to see for itself the damage caused by encroachment to the school lands. The meeting was reported by the OAA as generally positive. Source: http://www.oldachimotan.net/news/detail/201
