The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, students, residents, taxpayers, and concerned citizens of Montgomery
County, Tennessee, respectfully call for the resignation of Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder from her position as
Director of Schools for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. This demand arises from a
profound loss of public confidence in district leadership following the handling of allegations against
her husband, former Montgomery Central High School teacher Matthew Vedder.

Public reporting states that Matthew Gay Vedder was arrested on July 15, 2026, on four counts of
supplying obscene material to minors after authorities alleged that he showed nude photos of himself
to a 17-year-old student. Reporting also states that he admitted to investigators that he showed the
student the photos, though he claimed it was accidental, and that he resigned from CMCSS on April 9,
2026.

This matter has shaken the trust of students, families, and the broader community because the
accused employee was married to the district’s top administrator at the time of the district’s
response. Fox 17 reported that district representatives said Dr. Luna-Vedder stepped away from
disciplinary action and the investigation, and School Board Chair Chris Lanier said she recused
herself from the matter. Even so, recusal alone has not restored public trust, and many citizens
believe the district’s leadership can no longer credibly assure families that student safety is being
protected without conflict or appearance of conflict.

Students deserve a school system led by officials whose judgment, independence, and credibility are
beyond question. Parents deserve confidence that allegations involving staff misconduct will be
handled with complete transparency, urgency, and impartiality. The people of Montgomery County
deserve leadership that does not carry a cloud of divided loyalties in a matter involving student
safety and public accountability.

Accordingly, the undersigned call upon the Clarksville-Montgomery County Board of Education to:

-Accept or request the immediate resignation of Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder as Director of Schools.

-Appoint independent leadership or outside oversight for all remaining review, reporting, and
policy decisions connected to this matter.

-Release, to the fullest extent permitted by law, a public timeline of the district’s response,
including reporting, leave decisions, and communications with law enforcement and state
authorities.

-Strengthen district policy on employee misconduct, student protection, evidence preservation,
and conflicts of interest involving senior administrators.

This petition is not a substitute for the criminal justice process. It is a call for ethical accountability
and renewed public trust in the leadership of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System based on facts already reported publicly and on the community’s right to expect transparent, conflict-free governance.
