Dear Phoenix community members, hikers, and visitors,

We are deeply grateful to each of you who shared and signed the petition requesting the extension of trail hours and the installation of automated gates at Phoenix trailheads. Thanks to the support of many local groups and news outlets, including News 12, ABC15, and the Arizona Republic, we ended up with 1,922 signatures!

Your support highlights the value we all place on the unique experience that Phoenix trails offer—a wilderness escape right next to our bustling city. Reading through the reasons people listed for signing shows a community eager for the freedom to access that escape.

Extending trail hours will provide the hard-working people of this city the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors on their own schedules. As temperatures rise, this change will allow for safer hikes during the cooler morning and evening hours. The installation of automated gates will ensure that both residents and visitors can rely on clear and consistent access to the trails.

Thank you for standing with us and working to ensure our access to these beautiful natural spaces. Collective advocacy strengthens the community’s power to influence change. This week, we will be submitting the petition to the City of Phoenix City Council, the City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation Board, and City Manager Jeff Barton, along with the reasons you provided for supporting this initiative.
