Hello! Apologies! Last week I sent out an email with the WRONG times for the Tuesday, August 22, 2023 meetings on the Sangre De Cristo Electric Coop (SDCEA) proposal for mass tree removal throughout the Town of Buena Vista. Sorry about that. Here are the correct times. Please attend and bring your friends along!!! It's vital to show we have strong community support.
DATE: Tuesday, August 22, 2023 (tomorrow!)
LOCATION: BV Community Center
6:00pm: Work Session with Trustees and Sangre De Cristo Electric Coop.
Sangre will present its proposal for mass tree clear cutting. The BV Tree Coalition, BV Tree Board, and Beautification Committee will also make presentations. The parties will engage in conversation and Q&A.
7:00pm: Town Trustee Meeting
You are invited to give public comments. Arrive a little early to sign up. We would love to hear your thoughts on the proposal to cut down large swaths of trees throughout BV. Ask Sangre to voluntarily take a year to analyze better, less destructive, safer alternatives AND ask the Trustees to send an official Notice to Sangre demanding the same. Share whatever other thoughts and expertise you may have. Each person has up to 3 minutes to speak.

What's on my mind as I continue to think deeply about this issue, and what's right for our town is, I still need to know, what is SDCEA's PURPOSE in doing this project and how is the proposal specifically tailored to meet that purpose? The more we learn, the more inaccurate the SDCEA's assumptions about tree removal seem to be and without an important purpose and outcome that will be achieved, it feels haphazard and unnecessarily destructive.
