St. Michael's Church Rectory in Atlantic City is now a Convent for the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. The Sisters need assistance with supplies and volunteers to temporarily house the homeless on Code Blue Days...when outdoor temps are below freezing. This effort is their mission and the St. Michael's Church Preservation Society supports their work always. Below is the message to request help. I suggest you call first to coordinate any donations and/or volunteering.

God Bless,
Bob

Dear Friends of the Franciscan Sisters at St. Michael's Convent

Happy New Year! In the year of St. Joseph!
We have received the green light to start a Code Blue Shelter for this winter. Due to Covid-restrictions the local shelter is not able to house all the homeless here in Atlantic City, so there is a need for more places to take people in on nights when the temperature drops below 32°F. We will be using Quaremba Hall (behind St. Michael Church) and be open on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, when Code Blue is called in Atlantic City.

We can use a lot of help with this new apostolate and wanted to ask you if you would be able to help with volunteering or supplies.

  Volunteering:

It would be helpful if people could commit to a day of the week (Wed.-Sat.), to be available if code blue is called. Please let us know what day of the week works for you.

- Night shifts: 8pm-8am (4 volunteers to stay the night -at least one man)

- Hospitality: 5:30pm-8:30pm (6 volunteers receive people as they come in and serve the dinner)

- Intake security: 5:30pm-8:30pm (We would like to have a man do this)

- Set up teams: 1-3pm (2 volunteers to help our missionaries to prep the space for the next night)

- Laundry: pick up the sheets and blankets and wash at laundromat

  Supplies:

- Dinner: enough for 30 people -preferably cooked in a certified kitchen (or come here to prepare in the kitchen of Quaremba Hall)

Please bring paper goods or let us know ahead of time what will be needed

 - Breakfast items: juice boxes, water bottles, fruit cups, granola bars, peanut butter crackers, individually wrapped donut/cake items, …

 - Toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpastes (travel size), deodorant, soap, lotion, wash cloths, eye masks, ear plugs, socks

Thank you for your prayers and for considering helping us with this. If you are able to help out with volunteering or supplies, please call Sr. Joseph at 609-343-1545.

In Jesus and Mary,

Your Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal... at St. Michael's Church
