Save St. Mikes becoming the St. Michael’s Church Preservation Society;School Evaluated

The Save St. Mikes campaign is now moving forward to establish a long term strategy to preserve St. Michael’s Church for the next 100 years. Through the newly established St. Michael’s Church Preservation Society (SMCPS), individuals from anywhere in the country can participate in this effort. We intend to update and realize the original mission of St. Michael’s Church- to be the spiritual, social, and cultural focus of the Ducktown Neighborhood in Atlantic City. This will begin surely and gradually over the next eight months. To be viable St. Michael’s needs to attract and retain a strong Catholic community from the Atlantic City area and to operate the Church at no cost to the new Parish of St. Monica. This will only happen with the help of local and long distance supporters like you. St. Michael’s Church is now available on request for Weddings, Funerals, and Baptisms. Mass will also be celebrated once a month on Special Feast Days. The next Masses will be on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 11:00 am and on Christmas Eve. The SMCPS will also coordinate regular times for the Church to be open for tours, private prayer, and the Rosary. This is only a beginning. With increasing attendance and support and we expect to celebrate Mass every week. SMCPS is now evaluating the classrooms of St. Michael’s School for possible use. You may recall that the Salesian Sisters provided K-8 education to hundreds of students since 1912. The school was closed in 1989 and the classrooms will need repairs to be useful again. We will need plumbers, painters, and carpenters and general clean-up crews. The SMCPS would like to use the classrooms for Church ministries, community lectures, Italian Language Classes, and offices. Photos of the classrooms are available at the address below. If you can assist with the classroom clean-up project send an email to bvenafro@gmail.com. Many thanks, Bob
