Sept. 22, 2015 Update
70% of the Business owners in the neighborhood near St. Michael’s Church recently sent a letter and a petition to Bishop Sullivan calling the decision to close St. Michael’s Church a “bad business decision”. Also last week the Save St. Mikes team met twice with the new pastor of St. Michael’s Church and encouraged him to extend the regular Sunday Masses through December. He decided to discontinue the regular 11:00 am Sunday Mass after Sept. 27. We expressed deep disappointment and notified him of our plan to establish a non-profit organization St. Michael’s Church Preservation Society.
For copies of the Business Owners letter and petition to and the Mission Statement for the St. Michael’s Church Preservations Society go to savestmikes on facebook.
This preservation plan has been successful in 70 Churches around the country and is supported by our Canon Lawyers and has been acceptable to the Vatican. It is a practical way to keep St. Michael's Church intact. It gives the St. Michael’s Church Preservation Society- which is really all of us- operating authority over the Church and gives us time to build a stronger Catholic community nationally, in the neighborhood and the Atlantic City area.
The plan is only possible if supporters help. Financial support is needed now to reach our goal to raise $250,000. This amount will make the non-profit society financially able to meet its goal for at least the next two years. Please make a pledge using the form below, or use the form at savestmikes on facebook, or contact any of the persons listed at the end of the form.
Finally, after Mass last Sunday Anthony Venafro, the Pledge Campaign Coordinator, updated parishioners about the Pledge Campaign and plans for the St. Michael’s Church Preservation Society. A recording of these remarks will be sent to you shortly.
Thanks for your continued support,
Robert Venafro
