Changed and Pushed

At last night’s City Council meeting, there were modest but meaningful wins for those advocating for responsible development, not a halt to it, at the proposed Beauvoir Villas site. However, no final decision was made. Councilwoman Dixie Newman, who represents Ward 3 where the project is located, motioned to table the proposal until July, stating her intent was “to be respectful of our Ward’s wishes and for the incoming Councilman to have input.” As a result, the earliest the project could return to the agenda is the July 1st City Council meeting at 6:00 PM.

While the delay offers breathing room, significant changes toward the plan have already unfolded. The developer has now committed to reducing the number of homes from 251 to 213—an adjustment that firmly accepts 5-foot side setbacks. Though the full updated Master Plan has yet to be released, this shift strongly suggests lot sizes of 1,350 square feet (30 ft x 45 ft) with the potential to reach 1,500 square feet if other design elements remain intact.

We are filing a public records request for the updated plans and will report back as soon as we have the facts. For now, the community has won time, and time may prove to be the most powerful tool of all.

Now What?

You now have nearly two months—a valuable time window—to gather more signatures, engage with your neighbors, and make your voice heard by the City Council. More importantly, this is your opportunity to dig deeper into the ordinance and truly understand what a Planned Development means for our city. Knowledge is power—use this time wisely, and use it well. Please use the important links below:
