Thank you for your advocacy to restore school bus service in Howard County!

The board voted this evening to re-expand school bus service. The vote passed 7-0. The specifics are slightly different than old policy due to relying more on automated software for measurements that all go property line to property line. These walk zones (property line to property line) will be 0.75 miles for elementary school students and pre-K. 1.0 mile for middle school students. 1.5 miles for high school students. All walk distances can be extended by 0.1 mile to create a line of demarcation for neighborhoods. The new policy will be implemented starting in August 2025.

After months of advocacy, we are grateful for change. We will continue to encourage any options available to roll out expanded bus service sooner.
