PLEASE SIGN THIS URGENT PETITION: “Make Wars Illegal”
Human civilization has never been like it is now, with the ability to ensure that the entire population of the planet can feed itself, have access to education, communication and health services. Indeed, what was impossible few years ago is not today, because at the present there are the necessary knowledge and resources to achieve that goal. Also, never before society has had the capability to destroy life on Earth as it has at the present. For this, it will be enough to continue with the nuclear arms race and the indiscriminate and criminal abuse of natural resources.
Since the end of World War II, it is the first time that there is high probability of a Third World War with the use of nuclear weapons. The world press reported that “In a dramatic escalation of tensions over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia's nuclear arsenal forces to be placed on high alert on Sunday in response to what he called "aggressive declarations of the main NATO powers”.
“Wars begin with thoughts”, says the UNESCO foreword. The prohibition of wars, must also begin with thoughts and words, that is with declarations and finally, the creation of corresponding international laws. We have the majority for this in the world.
I sign, calling on Presidents of nations, prime ministers, parliamentarians, judges, all current or past presiding, Nobel prize winners, university students, academics, artists, etc., to request declaring wars illegal. Then, we can start the process of defining and imposing sanctions on those who do not comply.
