Stop Fencing Off Peterborough Fields.

Stop Fencing Off Peterborough Fields.
The Issue
Peterborough City council wants to install a 2.4 metre fence around a wonderful, tree lined, green field, given to the people of Peterborough for leisure use, by the Peterborough Development Corporation. The council are custodians of this land for us, not owners. The field is behind Ken Stimpson school in Werrington and used by them for sporting activities on rare occasions. The school has taken hundreds of square meters of the field over the years to build on already and this has been lost to the people of peterborough forever. The fence will be right up to the local footpaths. Our money will be used to build it at a cost of quarter of a million pounds. The intention is to restrict access during school hours. Outside of school hours, access will be granted by vivacity. In the current crisis, we would not be able to use it as we are now and would be funnelled onto the footpaths. No one goes on it during the time the school uses it. Why solve something that hasn't been a problem for 30 years? Health and safety has been bandied around as the explanation for illegal land grabbing. The money can be far better spent elsewhere, especially when the council has given over 20 million pounds of our money to a local solar panel project and hasn't received a penny back and will be extra millions in debt following the current crisis. Petition the council and stop this project. Keep this land for all of Peterborough. Save the local environment. Save money. Support much more worthy local projects when your money is being spent.
