Submission on Kiltimagh Velorail project  - Part 8

The Velorail planned for 15km at Kiltimagh using the closed railway has no contingency for people to leave the velorail in an emergency. A parallel pathway is essential for health and safety which can also be used as an inclusive public amenity as a simple footpath and cyclepath.  This project has already had almost €500,000 of public money allocated to it, and yet it is a socially exclusive project that takes away the right of Kiltimagh residents to walk the closed railway route free of charge. This project needs to be socially inclusive and take into account the needs of local residents, at present the plans for this project are plans for social exclusion.  This is not acceptable, the whole route from Charlestown to Claremorris needs to be available as a greenway and Mayo county council need to wake up to the fact this what people want to see happen.
