Make major chain pet stores take care of their animals or stop selling them

The Issue

As a major animal lover and activist, I have been in my many PetCo and PetSmart chain stores, and there is one concistant thing about both of them. The animals, especially the reptiles do not have the correct enclosures and it is very obvious that they are not taken care of. Animals in this state should never be sold, they should be not only checked by a vet, but should also be fed what they need and their enclosure should be what they need. An example is a PetCo that I was recently at was selling Ball pythons  they were all like this, but this one caught my attention. This snake looked like it had never seen a meal in its life. A Ball Python is a heavy bodied snake and should be rounded, smooth and there should be elasticity to their skin. I could see this ones spine very clearly, it has stuck shed, mites and parasites under the skin. This snake is very dehydrated and close to death. This snake was rough, this snake was very dull in color even under the spots the patchy shed had come off. And this animal was for sale. I guarantee that this animal is not alive anymore. The humidity in this enclosure was at 20% when it should be around 60%, which explains the shed. None of the enclosures were correct, there was sand in the reptile enclosures, which can cause serious health issues, and dead crickets in the water bowls. This was not at just one chain, but multiple. This is animal abuse and these animals should not be sold in these conditions. I know for a fact that these chains do not get any of their animals from reputable breeders, they get them from places that are basically like a puppy mill. Forparations like this keep these businesses running. Major chains like PetCo and PetSmart need to take care of their animals, or quit selling live animals  it's as simple as that.
