Save the RAC Driver Training Center

Save the RAC Driver Training Center
The issue
For years, car club and motorsport enthusiasts alike have enjoyed being able to 'take it to the track' in a safe and controlled manner at RAC's Driver Training Center near Perth Airport in Western Australia. With ongoing community problems focusing on hooning in the suburbs, the initiative was a fantastic way to get it out of your system and help to keep the roads of Western Australia safer. The facility also provides driver training courses, and is a 'home ground' for grass-roots motorsport in the region, running club-oriented motorsport events and autocross days.
The Problem
Unfortunately, due to the complaints of a few, the facility is at real risk of being shut down due to noise complaints. Despite the fact that the track is in the middle of an industrial area, also comprising of 2 airports, and a major freight depot and railway repair yard.
The Solution
There could be multiple solutions, such as:
- Building a sound-buffering wall, a hill on the track
- Sound testing cars and enforcing they be adequately muffled
- Providing upgrades to the peoples houses causing the complaints to block out noise, such as extra thick glass to windows.
We need to take action now and stand together, united as a community behind our only motorsport outlet of reasonable cost and location before it is too late.
