What is Bus Connects?
BusConnects aims to overhaul the current bus system in the Dublin region by:
building a network of “next generation” bus corridors on the busiest bus routes to make bus journeys faster, predictable and reliable; introducing Bus Rapid Transit, a higher quality of bus system, on three of the busiest corridors; completely redesigning the network of bus routes to provide a more efficient network, connecting more places and carrying more passengers; developing a state-of-the-art ticketing system using credit and debit cards or mobile phones to link with payment accounts and making payment much more convenient;
implementing a cashless payment system to vastly speed up passenger boarding times; revamping the fare system to provide a simpler fare structure, allowing seamless movement between different transport services without financial penalty;
implementing a new bus livery providing a modern look and feel to the new bus system; rolling out new bus stops with better signage and information and increasing the provision of additional bus shelters; and transitioning - starting now - to a new bus fleet using low-emission vehicle technologies."
What does this mean for us?
If you live in the Tyrrelstown area, it basically it means we will no longer have a direct bus into town. We will only have a bus to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre where people will then have to transfer to another bus. TheI navan road is also congested and slow moving traffic at peak times.
A process of consultation on this Report formally got underway on July 16th 2018 and will continue until September 14th 2018. As part of the consultation process, NTA and Dublin Bus will conduct a series of information events across the region. To date they have decided to exclude Dublin 15 in these information events.
They have invited people to have their say on the proposed network redesign via written submissions which can be submitted to the following email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
A strong objection needs to come from everyone. Even if you don’t use the bus now, this decision will effect lots of things such as house prices, safety of bus users, school going kids, people with buggies, wheelchair users and a lot more.
This is going to be an absolute nightmare. The traffic congestion in the centre is already high, let alone at Christmas. We can't sit back and accept that we are just going to be cut off from the world. We can't be ignored. With 125,000 people living in Dublin 15 area at last census (2011), we can't be just disregarded.
