SAAMNA - The Confrontation  

 

Concept Note

 

The man versus animal conflict is slowly and surely becoming a grim reality as humanity surges ahead and colonizes the world without any concern for other life forms . Suddenly the world has become a smaller place . The hunter gatherer has come out of his cave with his axe , emboldened by his discovery of fire and with his little understanding of light , sound , night and day he has gradually tried to become civilised . But one thing this hunter gatherer was not prepared for was gradual redundancy , deterioration of his health and depletion of resources . Nevertheless with his superior human brain ,  he conjured up ways and means to stay in control and remain at the top of the food chain . More civilised ways , more controlled thought processes , more transitions from a primate like existence to man made forms . Then he discovered religion , schisms , colour, segregation and then finally imagined supremacy over the land . But then there were some species which could not be domesticated and would rather die than be broken in . 

So then man after a ruthless period of annihilation and extermination  decided to leave them alone and went about rampaging , destroying himself, pillaging global resources , fighting holy wars ,  political wars ,  power wars and oil wars all across the planet . Till one day this resulted in the tilting of the global balance in nature and the environment . Nature has NOW started to speak .  The entire planet due to mans colossal greed and ruthless market forces  is facing the threat of global warming , climate change, polluted oceans and water resources , dying vegetations, scarcity and poisoning of food resources .. Hence the time has come to start addressing these issues before its too late .

The whole concept of Shikaar has been prevalent for a long time on the Indian subcontinent especially among the privileged classes . After the global discovery of gunpowder and ammunition slowly hunting starting from protection against wild animals , turned into a pastime and then turned into a rampaging business . The privileged classes having trophies and skins and stuffed animals adorning their mansions , palaces , houses.  The scarcity of these predators who were at the top of the food chain resulted in exacerbating the ecological imbalance due to the lower feeder animal population rising above its levels and wiping out entire food resources . Hence several half hearted attempts all over the world are being made to save the endangered species through specially created programs by various animal welfare organizations like the WWF , PETA , Save the Snow Leopard Trust, Save the Wolves , Polar Bears , Whales , Great Whites , Project Tiger etc …to name a few .

Since our Bollywood film industry is popular and has a wide audience right across the globe , it is my humble attempt to address this issue of saving the endangered species through this powerful medium of Indian commercial cinema . 

The idea is to take a stellar Bollywood cast to portray the characters in the film story which will guarantee a full audience and more outreach . The more people who watch  the film or web series , the more the message about saving the endangered species will be driven home. And the parallel sub plot of the intrusion by sinister  foreign forces on our borders will also stir up the  love for the nation in them. .

Saamna--The Confrontation is an action- adventure drama based in the remote Sikkim Himalayas .  On a personal level it is also about the triumph of the human spirit over the forces of unpredictable nature at its fiercest .
