Ban the sale of dogs and cats in petshops

Ban the sale of dogs and cats in petshops
The Issue
When people buy from pet shops they are at risk of getting a sick puppy. Many puppies are in together that have not completed their vaccination course and many do come with ilnesses such as parvo (a virus that can last in certain environments up to 1 year or more), distemper... They are very contagious. Not to mention supporting and incouraging them to keep the market going. If we buy, they sell, therefore they will just get more in and do the same. I understand seeing them in their glass cages and them being so cute, it does pass your mind what will happen to them if no one takes them but, we must let it be. If people stop the buying, the selling will have to stop which is hard as not everyone knows the situation. I will try to explain briefly what is going on. Where do these puppies come from? Most of these puppies come from either puppy mills or maybe even individuals who have the mother as a breeding machine. In horrid conditions! Bred and bred until she is no longer in use where then she is discarded of like rubbish. A pound, the streets.. depending on the situation the outcome of mum. Other times they come from abroad. There was a programme on Spanish TV where petstores in Spain was buying dogs from Slovaquia (many unwell) hundreds shoved in a van where many do not make the trip to then be sold on here cheaper than breeders. Puppies sold in these shops normally in windows often are bought impulsively. A child begging their parents, or even an adult as they get them so tiny and cute, people just want to take them home. Obviously not everyone realising the care and needs of a pet, It's lifespan and the responsibility. Soo often you see them looking to be rehomed. I think an 90% (im just giving a rough guess) of dogs homed through petshops keep that dog its whole life. I work in a veterinary clinic and in rescue and i see so many purebred dogs end up being dumped. I saw a 7 month old French bulldog, a 6 month old lab, Pinscher of 2 years.. People get them like an object, an ornament, a toy.. you cannot imagine the excuses of people when they give them up and ofcourse the petshop guy doesn't give a crap. He gives you no basic idea on care, what is needed, what puppies get up to, how to prevent or any other information. Infact as far as many are concerned they could be selling it to a terrorist who later will get that dog to enter a building to blow it up.. Their just bothered about the money they will receive. They do not advise on which dog is right for you. You hand the money and that's it. Dogs yours. In many cases I hear/see of dogs coming out sick or dying and they ask if you want another or might give you your money back. No sympathy that your pet just died. Sadly alot of suffering is involved. it's not fair on them. This may seem extreme but it is the true reality behind petshops. If people want a purebred, there are many in rescue centers but a puppy of a certain breed which is hard to find then go to a decent breeder not a petshop or backyard breeder. You can find this information anywhere. Please do sign and lets try and save hundreds and thousands of dogs and cats from suffering. Thank you for your time.
