Breastfeeding is changing the health of Pennsylvanians...for the better. Breastfeeding is the great equalizer, it improves the health and development of both boys and girls, the healthy or sick; the premature or full-term, and the rich or poor.  The benefits from breastfeeding improve the health of babies and their mothers for their entire lives.  

Breastfeeding is a low cost investment that ultimately saves money for everyone.  The health benefits can save 128 lives and $701 million each year for Pennsylvania and its families with newborns.  Click here for all the reasons why this is true!

Pennsylvania’s families want to breastfeed their babies, 80% start out doing so. However, most mothers quit breastfeeding before they want to because they are worried, and they are not getting the breastfeeding help that they need.

Families can reach their breastfeeding goals with the help of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) whose knowledgeable services have been proven to increase breastfeeding rates.

The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant credential requires the most extensive education and it is the only certification that requires clinical experience before taking an international certifying examination.

Unfortunately, state and federal regulations prohibit most insurance plans from covering services of IBCLCs because our profession is not licensed.  You can help families get lactation support from IBCLCs by signing this petition to our lawmakers and Governor Wolf asking them to license IBCLCs.
