Put a Stop to Roadside Herbicide Spraying

The Issue

There has been a lot of concern with all of the obviously heavily sprayed chemicals on the roadsides in our township lately.  I beg of you to take notice around the areas in which you reside as well. I am positive you will notice the dead brown vegetation lining certain areas of roadways in which you are driving. After further investigation, I discovered that the overabundant use of glyphosate (RoundUp) is used to tame and kill weeds rather than employing landscapers to work on cutting back weeds and tending to overgrown vegetation. Instead, trucks drive by residences, playgrounds, parks, schools - you name it - spraying large quantities of the well-known toxic weed-killer, glyphosate.

Glyphosate-based herbicides are now the most commonly used herbicides in the world. It is still promoted as ‘safe’, despite damning evidence of serious harm to health and the environment.

Glyphosate is implicated in birth and reproductive defects, endocrine disruption, cancers, genotoxicity, neurotoxicity, respiratory problems, nausea, fever, allergies and skin problems.

When chemical herbicides are used: diverse living organisms are being killed, children and pets being exposed, non-target plants affected…it's an absolute trifecta of herbicide side-effects.

The serious harm to health and the environment caused by the use of glyphosate herbicides is clear. There is a compelling case for banning or phasing out glyphosate-based herbicides worldwide. While that is a lofty goal, we wish to start with our state, Pennsylvania, to stop using glyphosate as well as other harmful chemicals for weed/brush control on roadsides.
