Many have wondered why we are raising funds through our GoFundMe page and where the money will be going towards, so here is why we need your help. The developer and their team will spend a lot of money to convince the City and other agencies that their project is within codes and good for the community. We believe this is absolutely not the case. The developer stands to make a lot of money, perhaps millions if they can convince the regulatory folks to just let them build this development. We need to be equally diligent and convincing in presenting documents and information that substantiates why this project may not be in compliance and why this project is not good for the community. In order to maintain a strong presence, properly presenting good information that needs to be considered in reviewing this development, with the City, the Coastal Commission and possible other organizations that may weigh in on this project, we too will need to invest a lot of money. We have put together a team including an experienced land-use attorney, a community outreach team, a biologist and communications expert. The costs associated with the attorney alone will likely be $35,000 - $75,000 and could go higher. We want to be sure that our voice is just as loud, just as clear and just as well backed by facts and legal precedents as the developer’s will be. Two separate experts have advised us that our efforts will likely exceed $100,000 over time. Fortunately, savekelloggbeach was able to reach out to several Point Loma community supporters early on, and secure funding of approximately $45,000 from 12 individuals, who care just as I am sure you do. But as you now know, we will most certainly need so much more. We have already spent almost half of what has been contributed. We need your help now.
