Thanks to you, our petition to save the PCC pool now has more than 1000 signatures! Thank you!

While I appreciate everyone's support, I am sorry to inform you that the PCC administration is not listening to those of us in the community who want the pool to be preserved as a resource for the community.

I am told by my contacts at PCC that a committee of aquatics staff, students, and pool supporters - from the staff as well as the community - tried for more than a month to meet with PCC leaders to make their case to save the pool. The committee was repeatedly stonewalled, but after many weeks of waiting administrators granted a meeting with an interim dean and a second meeting with a small group from the PCC president's cabinet. The administrators started both of these meetings by saying, "The decision to close the pool will not be changed," which was especially insulting to the aquatics professionals because they had been told that they had already had a chance to have a say in a pool feasibility study, which was false. The administration is using the study as justification for closing the pool but they are not sharing the study with anyone. Also they are saying the lap pool was damaged when it was drained during the pandemic closure, yet they are the ones who gave the order to drain the pool!

The committee heard from the administration at the second meeting that the pools could be kept open for less than $50k. These are funds PCC could easily find in their budget, or they could ask the community to contribute to a fund to keep the pool open. But the committee got the sense that the administration just wants to close the pool - they don't want to find ways to keep it open. They have made up their minds - no matter what the community wants.

What can you do? Please go to the PCC Board of Directors web page (https://www.pcc.edu/board/members/ find the district you live in and the board member who represents your district, and click the "Contact" link for your representative. Send an email to your representative and tell her or him that you want the pool to be saved for the community.

Thank you for your support of the pool. We have only a few weeks to save the pool or it will be lost forever.
