The Issue

No animal should suffer silently on our streets.

We, the students of Maximo Estrella Senior High School alongside concerned community members, stand together to give a voice to the voiceless: our local street animals, our beloved Aspins (Asong Pinoy) and Puspins (Pusang Pinoy).

Every day across the Philippines, thousands of stray dogs and cats endure heartbreaking hardships, including severe starvation, extreme weather, injuries, and untreated illnesses. Many of these animals suffer because our community lacks sufficient affordable veterinary clinics, accessible shelters, and widespread education on responsible pet ownership.

Ignoring animal welfare not only hurts these innocent animals—it impacts public safety, health, and the overall compassion of our community. By choosing humane, effective, and community-driven solutions, we can save lives while creating a cleaner, safer, and more caring city for everyone.

Our Call to Action

We urgently call upon Pet Owners, Students, Animal Shelters, Educators, Community Members, and Local Government Units (LGUs) to take immediate, coordinated action by:

  • Strengthening Animal Rescue & Shelter Programs: Establishing and funding community-based rescue networks, temporary holding spaces, and accessible spay/neuter (kapon) drives for stray animals.

  • Encouraging Responsible Pet Ownership: Conducting active community education on proper nutrition, mandatory vaccinations, identification tags, and preventing pet abandonment.

  • Protecting Animals from Cruelty: Enforcing Philippine animal welfare laws (RA 8485 / RA 10631) strictly and raising awareness against animal abuse, neglect, and illegal trade.
