Petition updatePause Data Centers in Calvert County: Support a Moratorium (Hearing is on 8/18 -Sign now)

2540 voices already. Now let’s get to 10,000.

Hi everyone,

First, thank you. In just a short time, 2,540 people have signed the petition calling for a 2-year moratorium on large-scale data center development in Calvert County so our community has time to fully study the impacts on our power grid, water resources, infrastructure, environment, schools, emergency services, and quality of life before decisions are made.

That number matters. Decision makers notice organized public engagement, especially when it comes from verified local residents who are paying attention and speaking up respectfully and thoughtfully.

But we need to go much bigger. Our new goal is 10,000 signatures.

And honestly? We can get there surprisingly fast if everyone who already signed helps just ONE more person sign offline.

  • A neighbor.
  • A coworker.
  • A friend at church.
  • A family member.
  • Someone at a graduation party, cookout, baseball game, or community event.

Many people in our county are not on TikTok or Facebook every day. Some have never seen the petition at all. But when someone they know personally explains what’s happening and hands them the link or QR code, they are often very willing to sign.

Here’s the simplest strategy:

• Pull up the petition on your phone or tablet
• Share the QR code with someone in person
• Ask them to sign right there on the spot
• Encourage them to pass it along too

That’s how movements grow. Neighbor to neighbor.

This effort has never been about being “for” or “against” technology. It’s about making sure Calvert County residents have enough time, transparency, and public process before massive industrial projects move forward.

A pause is reasonable.

Community input is reasonable.

Wanting more answers before irreversible decisions are made is reasonable.

If every current signer helps just one more person sign, we would already be halfway to our goal. Thank you again for caring enough to speak up for Calvert County.

Please keep sharing.

In Solidarity,

Melissa in Southern Maryland
