Every October, Salem's Haunted Happenings brings thousands of people to our wonderful city. We are a city that is blessed to have a very robust restaurant scene, that is booming, and offers so much variety. We are truly becoming quite the "foodie destination" and I think that is wonderful! During October however waits for tables can stretch to as long as 2 hours and therefore many people rely on the ever present food booths. The city has for years contracted with Fiesta Shows as the exclusive vendor for these booths and the offerings are expensive and low quality junk food of little or no nutritional value. It would be wonderful to see the city turn to our myriad of  talented chefs and restaurant owners to work out a way that we can move on from this and provide more variety, more choice and more healthy options for our community and our out of town visitors. As a parent and pediatric nurse, surrounding our children with food choices that are nutritionally empty is doing a huge disservice to them.
