The Issue

Please Support the Opoids & STOP Pain Initiative Act, H.R. 4734/S. 2260, to help people that have Chronic Pain, and are losing relief.

Currently, Over 100 million Americans are living with chronic pain, and back and neck pain, as well as migraines, are the top two causes of disability globally. This also includes kidney pain. Current treatments are limited and chronic pain conditions cost the United States $635 billion annually. Despite the fact millions of individuals are suffering and the cost of care and lost productivity are expensive, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) only funded $116 million on opioids and $483 million on pain research in 2016. Without an understanding of chronic pain, we cannot begin to develop alternatives to opioids in order to treat this condition.

To combat this issue, bipartisan, federal legislation known as the Opioids & STOP Pain Initiative Act or H.R. 4733 has been introduced. This landmark bill would appropriate $5 billion over the course of five years for the National Institutes of Health to research chronic pain and develop new therapies, including alternatives to opioids, for effective pain treatment. Passage of H.R. 4733/S. 2260, would ensure valuable research could be conducted to help alleviate the suffering many Americans with chronic pain live with each day.

Please support H.R. 4733/S. 2260!
