In a somewhat secretive session Governor Patrick McCrory and the NC general assembly rammed through HB-2  also known as the bathroom bill or, more officially, as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act – makes it illegal for cities to expand upon those state laws, as more than a dozen cities had done including Charlotte, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham. This is just one more example of Republican homo-phobia, trans-phobia and typical fear mongering.

HB2 affects rights of people who aren’t gay or transgender.

The law limits how people pursue claims of discrimination because of race, religion, color, national origin, biological sex or handicap in state courts. The law also means a city or county cannot set a minimum wage standard for private employers.

Talking Points:

Others have spoken to the negative economic impact of this obtuse law but I would like to speak to its sheer cruelty, ignorance and  stupidity. It is an immutable and scientific fact that 1 in 1000 babies are born with some sort on gender anomaly. Some of these include 47,XXX48, XXXX 49 XXXXY syndrome
49, XXXXX Klinefelter's syndrome, XXY Turner syndrome, XXX gonadal dysgenesis XX male syndrome XXYY syndrome and XYY syndrome. Others are born with AIS Androgen Insufficiency Syndrome in which the baby is genetically male with XY chomosomes but develops physically as a female. Where would Governor McCrory have this person do their toileting? 

I have a friend who is female to male transgendered. This person was born with a vagina and ovaries but also prostate gland. He's now bald with a full beard and much more manly than most men I know. How would Governor McCrory like it if this guy were to use the ladies room while his wife as in their primping? 

Please take the time to write, email or call the Republican members of the North Carolina General Assembly and explain to them the errors of their foolish and hateful ways.

This law will probably be overturned because it is unconstitutional but don't count on it. The time as come to replace every single bigoted Republican in every political office in North Carolina. They are an embarrassment to the good and enlightened citizens of North Carolina.
