It is in the interests of the people of Liverpool and anyone whose wants to see Justice for the 96 who sadly lost their lives at the Hillsborough Disaster to sign this Petition.

Bernard Hogan-Howe worked for the South Yorkshire Police service between 1979 and 1997, and is currently subject to an investigation by the IPCC (Independent Police Complaints Commission) over his role in the Hillsborough disaster. The investigation was launched after Hogan-Howe – who had a role working with bereaved families on the evening of the disaster – claimed to have provided a statement for the Taylor Inquiry, when in fact, he had not done so.

We find it astonishing and shameful that a University based in ‘Liverpool’ would consider awarding an honorary doctorate to Bernard Hogan-Howe, whilst the inquestinto the disaster has not yet concluded, and whilst an investigation into his own conduct has not yet taken place.

He is due to receive his award at the Metropolitan Cathedral on Monday 1st December (10.30am). Liverpool University had been hoping to keep the event a quiet, invite only affair. However, thanks to someone who shares our disgust at Hogan-Howe receiving an award, we are considering ourselves cordially invited to the ceremony…
