Pass the People's Road Act in Nigeria
The Issue
Nigerians face an incredible danger every day just living their lives, and this danger lurks on the very roads that connect their communities, families, and livelihoods. Despite being one of the most populous countries in Africa, Nigeria suffers from a crumbling infrastructure where dilapidated roads are common, contributing to an abhorrent number of fatal accidents. For us, these roads are a necessity, but for our leaders, they're avoided at all costs.
Imagine a nation where public servants are connected with the reality of the citizens they serve. Our Governors, Senators, and other officials tend to travel by air, flying over the very problems they're supposed to address. They are disconnected from the struggles of the people, quite literally above them. Meanwhile, the average Nigerian has to endure the treacherous travel conditions daily, risking life and limb.
This is why we demand the passing of the People's Road Act. This legislation will restrict all Governors, Senators, Ministers, and Representatives to only one domestic flight per month. The remainder of their travel within Nigeria must be by road.
This initiative is not just a demand for accountability but a push towards empathy through personal experience. If our leaders travel like us, they will understand the urgency and allocate resources effectively to both repair and modernize our roadways. This measure will not only ensure they experience the daily challenges of Nigerians, but also bring urgency to road safety issues. After all, if it's unsafe for them, it’s unsafe for us.
We want leaders who know how it feels to commute through hardship and who will act decisively to improve our national infrastructure. By ensuring that our governors and officials experience the daily trials of road travel like every Nigerian citizen, we create a push for immediate improvement and investment in safer, more reliable roadways.
Join us in calling on the National Assembly to pass this Act. This is not just a bill; it’s a commitment to better lives and safer journeys for all Nigerians. Sign and share this petition now to ensure that our voices drive the mission toward better roads. Together, let's make sure our leaders feel what we feel. Let's Fix the Roads Now!
