Hello supporters,
After roughly 4 years of fighting and endless disappointments, I'm finally happy to report that we won today.
Both S.B. 272 and H.B. 1552 passed and will now move on to the Governor's desk. Effective July 1 of this year, tethers will have to be 15 feet long instead of 10, and it will be illegal to tether a dog if the temperature is 32 or below, 85 or above, during weather warnings and storms, and more.
This was not a landslide victory. We encountered resistance and the vote for the final passage was very close.
We are indebted to Sen. John Bell and Del. Mark Levine for their hard work and dedication to seeing this through. It took a lot of patience, determination, and willingness to collaborate. This will make a difference of life and death to countless dogs across Virginia.
I will be sure to update you when the law is officially signed.
Thank you for your support.
Gary
