Hello supporters, We're officially over 14,000 signatures! As I begin to storyboard the video, I will be looking for rescues & shelters and/or any animal-related agencies in Virginia who might be interested in speaking on camera about the dangers of leaving dogs outside in harsh weather. Both the Richmond SPCA and the Humane Society of the United States has expressed their interest and willingness to participate. I'm looking to highlight real cases from Virginia where dogs have frozen or suffered heat stroke. Additionally, I want to discuss the physiological aspects (what happens inside a dog's body when they start to overheat/freeze). If you know of anyone who would be willing to participate, please ask them to email me at gary@guardiansofrescue.org. Don't forget that I have added the fundraiser to help with the cost. If you would like to contribute, click here: https://www.change.org/f/help-fund-the-video-project?source_location=petition_show Lastly, we STILL need more media coverage! Please email these addresses: Content@richmond.com News@newsvirginian.com Hneditor@gmail.com Info@insidenova.com Circulation@starexponent.com News@dailyprogress.com lee.wolverton@roanoke.com Editor@powhatantoday.com Here is an updated letter you can copy and paste into your email to each outlet: To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to make you aware of a large movement to pass legislation in Virginia that will protect dogs from being left outside in extreme weather. Several dogs have frozen to death and died of heat stroke, and this proposed law will prevent owners from openly abusing their dogs. A petition was started a little over a month ago and has more than 14,000 signatures. You can read the petition and the related statistics here: https://www.change.org/p/pass-a-virginia-law-requiring-dog-owners-to-keep-their-dogs-inside-in-harsh-temperatures PLEASE consider running a story on this movement. NBC12, CBS6, WDBJ7, ABC8, and the Bristol Herald Courier have already covered it. This is quickly becoming a large mission and meetings are being set up with Virginia legislators. If you would like to reach Gary Sweeney, the creator of the petition, please email him at: gary@guardiansofrescue.org. Thank you very much for your time and consideration! Sincerely, Your name Thank you as always, and let's keep the momentum going!
