BNO for CANZUK
Jun 11, 2018
It has been the worst ever sentencing of political dissident in Hong Kong since the handover in 1997. Activist Edward Leung Tin-kei will face 6 years of imprisonment after he was found guilty for "rioting" by using an out-dated law which does not conform with the UN human rights standards. Britain has long been thinking that Hong Kong would preserve its human right standard if they asserted their influence as a signatory of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. It includes publishing Six-monthly reports on Hong Kong, making statements of criticism after some of other activists, or lawmakers, were previously sentenced. But now it has been proved unsuccessful. It is time for Britain to change its focus on the right of the BNOs, rather than on the internal issues of the Hong Kong SAR.
