Healthcare is a major issue with the recent pandemic of COVID-19, but implementing reciprocal healthcare arrangements between CANZUK countries would provide numerous benefits for citizens across Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom already engage in “Reciprocal Health Care Agreements” (RHCAs), meaning residents of these countries are entitled to free medical treatment when travelling within each country. This includes emergency treatment and treatment for ill health or injury that arises during a visit.
Now is the time for Canada to join these agreements, creating a unified CANZUK healthcare accord.
In addition, cooperation between the CANZUK countries will need to go beyond healthcare in a post-COVID-19 world. A new era of diplomatic cooperation between like-minded countries independent of global super-powers will be beneficial for citizens, businesses and the economies of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
