Healthy Food Guide
May 5, 2016
New Zealand pays between $700 million and $800 million a year in health costs and lost productivity due to overweight and obesity, according to University of Auckland research. Ministry of health data show one in nine Kiwi children are obese and 35,000 are morbidly obese. Three in 10 adults are obese. In the year 2011-2012 34,000 Kiwi children had a tooth removed due to decay, abscess or infection. A sugary drinks tax is not the solution but it’s a start. It's not a sugar tax. It's a tax on drinks with little to no nutritional value and way too much sugar. Money from this tax can be reinvested in education so people can make healthier choices for themselves and their children. It’s time we do something about expensive and preventable lifestyle conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and dental caries. Share the petition today. ‪#‎sugarydrinkstax‬
