Millions of Australian cattle, sheep and goats are exported live each year to countries in the Middle East, South East Asia and Asia. According to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), the combined estimated value of live sheep and cattle exports for slaughter in 2014-2015 was $1.408 billion -a mammoth income generator for Australia.  But, the harsh reality for these animals is that those that survive transit on ships, suffer brutal treatment before being slaughtered in barbaric fashion in the importing markets. The alternative is humane slaughter in Australia which means chilled meat export.
