I received a response from the Barbara Coler on the encampment. She had this information to share:
"Fairfax Specific Information:
The Fairfax Police department has been working with the Marin County Health and Human Services team since the formation of a small encampment near the Town of Fairfax’s corporation yard in Fairfax in 2021.
Marin County Health and Human Services Team had assigned two separate outreach care teams to visit the Fairfax site since approximately March 2022.
Community Action Marin Care Team: generally come out weekly to visit our unhoused population to create a relationship and offer services.
Downtown Streets Team: generally come out twice a month to visit our unhoused population to create a relationship and offer services.
Fairfax PD has always provided foot patrols in the area, before the encampment began. As for daily interactions, The Fairfax Police Officers have the encampment area listed as part of their daily foot beat assignment. Officers visit the site on foot during each shift daily. They have a good working relationship with the unhoused community, and know each other by name.
Fairfax is part of the “Central Marin Area” for the High Utilizer Project under Marin County Health and Human Services. Listed Cities in the “Central Marin Area” are Corte Madera, Fairfax, Larkspur, Ross, and San Anselmo. This program is a partnership between the cities and county to create a new case management program for people experiencing chronic homelessness who are high utilizers of municipal services, such as police, fire, EMS, and/or DPW. Case management will allow recipients to access housing vouchers through our partnership with the Marin Housing Authority. Case Management assignments would likely take place soon, and the Central Marin Area has identified 42 individuals for potential housing vouchers, with 9 placements available. "

She also stated "These people (members of encampment) are part of our community and the Town is working closely with the County to provide them assistance. I am concerned that we view ourselves as a progressive community yet with our unhoused we do not seem to be. Also, tentatively there is a presentation on homelessness by the County Coordinator scheduled for our August 3rd Council meeting. "
