Letter to Minister Foley & Planned Protest
Given the urgency of the situation, we have now formally written to Minister Norma Foley, outlining the lack of engagement from both the Board of Rainbow Playgroup and Pobal, and requesting immediate intervention before the closure takes effect. We have clearly asked her to:
1. Intervene to keep Rainbow Community Playgroup open and prevent further sudden closures.
2. Ensure greater transparency and oversight in early years funding decisions.
3. Require parental representation on preschool boards so families have a say in decisions affecting their children’s education.
4. Clarify Pobal’s role in ensuring government-funded childcare services remain open
and that closures are not decided behind closed doors without parental consultation.
We have given Minister Foley the opportunity to meet with us before Thursday to prevent this closure.
However, if no action is taken, we will proceed with a peaceful protest outside the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth (DCEDIY) at Miesian Plaza, Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, on Thursday, February 6th at 3pm
