Dear State of Connecticut Educational Policymakers,
I am writing today in a desperate plea on behalf of our childrenin Connecticut Public Schools, to allow for the option for remote learning in the upcoming academic year. At the moment, the only option that parents who wish to keep their children learning in the safety of their homes, is to break ties with their neighborhood school, and take on the arduous task of educating them themselves in a home school setting. Many of us are not physically, mentally, or financially equipped for this undertaking, and the option for a private tutor can be cost prohibitive. Our children are entitled to have access to a public education AND to be kept safe from harm while learning. I am a concerned parent and taxpayer ,who wholeheartedly believes that the state educational system needs to proactively protect our students from a WELL KNOWN and WELL DOCUMENTED harmful threat, and to keep our kids physically thriving in the midst of deadly pandemic. After all, what message are we sending our children about the value of their lives, when we send them into an environment where there is a strong potential for severe illness ,disability, or death? In light of the recent circulation of the more contagious and deadly Delta Variant that our young ones are more susceptible to, I truly feel that the best way to protect our future generation’s well being is to allow parents to have the choice of whether or not our childrenphysically participate in in school learning. Those under the age of 12 years old, who are not eligible for the Covid vaccine, as well as the younger population in general, are more susceptible and succumb more easily to the devastating effects of this new Delta Variant. Unfortunately, I am all too familiar with the gut wrenching devastation that Covid has had upon myself, my loved ones, and my community. That is why, today I am pleading with the State of Connecticut’s educational decision makers to offer an option for our precious students to have the choice of remote learning commencing at the start of this schoolyear. This is literally a matter of life and death for many, and I am ill prepared to face the devastating loss , or severe illness of my innocent child. I implore you to take immediate action to prevent such loss and devastation; we owe it to our future generation.
Very Warm Regards,
Jodi Clark-Lopez
