False Allegations in Family Court: It's Not Just a Dispute, It's a Form of Abuse

When I started this petition, it was in support of Bill C-223. Since then it has grown into something broader: a resource for everyone navigating family law and parental alienation in Canada.
Having spoken with many who experience this, in Canada as well as outside the borders of Canada, it is time to speak up. Time to share this important information, fight for the kids and those who are thrown into this unacceptable situation with their child.
Legal and Emotional Harm
Intentionally using false allegations in family court to manipulate custody, isolate a parent, or gain leverage is widely recognized by legal and mental health professionals as a form of psychological, emotional, and legal abuse. It is often described as a weaponization of the legal system. Fabricating serious claims, such as domestic violence, child abuse, or neglect, seizes control, damages reputations, and severs a parent's bond with their children.
Coercive Control
This behavior aligns with patterns of post-separation abuse or coercive control, where one party uses systemic intimidation, fear, and court-mandated restrictions to punish or dominate the other.
The Child Is a Hostage
It is critical to understand that a child in this situation is effectively a hostage. More often than not, the child is told what to say, having been brainwashed, and is not allowed to speak positively about the other parent. Taking what a child in that situation says at face value is dangerous, because it only amplifies the false narratives and the coercion.
Context and history are critical factors.
A big tell is a sudden change surrounding court proceedings or a court order change. It is unnatural for a child to suddenly not want to speak with or be around their parent. That just does not happen, especially in connection with a forced change in custody, forced through things like Ex Parte Interim Orders.
This is very much litigation abuse.
Other factors at play are sudden change of phone numbers, removal from child's messenger apps, control of email, any form of communication. None of this is accidental, it is a deliberate act to upkeep control of the false narratives. In fact, one of the more common tactics used by the alienating parent and enablers.
Trauma Impact
Being falsely accused triggers severe psychological distress, including chronic stress, anxiety, hypervigilance, and trauma similar to other forms of emotional abuse. This happens to Fathers as well as Mothers. Sometimes even leading to cPTSD, due to the litigation abuse, also called Court Abuse.
Real parents don't weaponize the system.
