Petition supporters see through the alienator's false choices every day.
If a child is told "you have a choice," but that choice means keeping peace with the alienator or facing punishment, that is not a choice. That is coercive control. It is abuse.
An alienating parent does not "protect" their child. They imprison them in fear and confusion.
Children forced into silence carry wounds that last a lifetime.
Courts must recognize this pattern for what it is: family destruction hidden as parenting.
Alienated children suffer deep harm. They face anxiety, depression, trust issues, and fractured identity from constant pressure to reject a loving parent.
Professionals must look deeper.
Never assume words from an alienated child reflect their true self.
These children are hostages, speaking scripted lines under coercion.
British Columbia's Family Law Act addresses this in section 37(2)(b), which considers a child's views but requires protection from coercion. Section 49 also guards against undue influence in parenting arrangements. The Child, Family and Community Service Act, used by MCFD, reinforces child protection from emotional harm in section 13(1)(b).
