Thank you for signing this petition. With your help, we convinced the board to report comprehensive weighted GPAs (the Gunn method) on transcripts at both Gunn and Paly, but only for the class of 2017.
The board put off making a long-term decision until now. Dr. McGee will present his GPA recommendation for the class of 2018 and beyond at the board meeting tomorrow (Mar 28). The board will discuss and perhaps even vote. Now is the time to be heard!
The meeting starts at 6:30pm and is held at 25 Churchill Ave in the room at the back of the building. It’s best to arrive a bit early since it will be crowded. Speaking out is helpful but you’ll need to keep it short: you’ll probably only be given two minutes. If you don’t want to speak, still come! Just by being there, the board will see how many people care about this issue. If you speak, be sure to submit a comment card as soon as you arrive. Here’s a map: https://goo.gl/maps/A1Bdgc2Ykxv
Dr. McGee is recommending that both weighted and unweighted GPAs be reported, and that there not be a cap, at least for now. However, he’s recommending that only AP and UC-approved honors courses be weighted, but not when taken by freshmen. This would mean that Gunn students who have taken Geometry H, Algebra 2 / Trig H, Biology H, or Chemistry H would lose the extra point.
You can email the board (board@pausd.org) and superintendent (mmcgee@pausd.org) too.
